NPG Scholarship Essay Contest

NPG, a national membership organization devoted to population issues, invites reasoned and clearly written discussion of the following question:

Many people believe that our nation is already greatly overpopulated with regards to our limited natural resources and fragile environment. Do you agree that congress should create a National Population Policy? If so, what would you recommend as its chief goals? If not, how do you propose we solve this problem?

The NPG Scholarship Committee will select three (3) winners. Essays will
be judged on quality of writing, originality, and evidence of critical thinking.
All decisions are within the discretion of NPG scholarship judges and all decisions are final. Any taxes are the responsibility of the scholarship winners. All scholarships will be paid directly to the college or university to be applied
to the account of the winner.
Eligibility requirements:
- Applicant must be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Applicant must be a senior in high school or a college freshman, sophomore or junior in an undergraduate program.
- Applicant must be attending a school within the United States, or operated overseas by the U.S. government.
- Applicant must write an original essay and may submit only one essay. Applicant's name must be printed at the top of the essay and Applicant must sign and date the essay.
- Essays should be between 500 and 750 words, written in English,
word-processed or typed double-spaced, one side only, in black ink
on 8.5x11 inch white paper, and use Times Roman or Arial font size
12-14 points. Electronic or faxed essays will not be accepted.
- Applicant must sign and date the enclosed application. Parent or Guardian signature is also required for applicant under 18.
- Relatives of employees or directors of NPG are not eligible. Not valid where prohibited.
- All Entries must be received by April 18, 2008. Those post-
marked prior to due date, but received after deadline will NOT
