Dear Art Educator:

This is an open invitation to America’s art teachers who teach 9-12 grade students to register for an educational, exciting and enriching poster contest.

With today’s students expected to live at least 78 years, if present trends continue they could see an America severely overcrowded with 500 million or more people.  As part of NPG's 40th Anniversary activities, we are using this contest to bring the important issue of population growth to the generation that will face even greater challenges in an overpopulated America. 

Our poster contest represents an opportunity for your students to use their artistic talents to create a poster that will focus on the theme of TOO MANY PEOPLE.  We urge you to have your students think about how to depict this theme.  The population issue touches our lives in many ways – especially in the environmental area – so we have also included information you can use as a teaching aide.  For additional information on population growth, and its associated problems, your students can go to our website, www.npg.org.

To generate greater interaction between the art departments and students, we will award equal monetary prizes to the wining students and their schools.

We need you to register online before March 1, 2012 to tell us that you will be participating in this contest.  Only teachers who have registered may submit students’ posters.  Posters will be due at NPG by April 30, 2012.
