The Legal Workforce Act (H.R. 2885) mandates a national online database (similar to the E-Verify system) and requires all businesses to verify every job applicant’s status as legal and eligible for employment in the U.S. The law prescribes stiff penalties for businesses who fail to use the system and illegal workers who attempt to fraudulently “pass” the screening.

NPG has long supported legislation requiring identity verification for all employees nationwide. With an estimated 7 million jobs currently held by illegal immigrants, until the “identity loophole” is closed for good we can expect the flood of illegals seeking work in this country to continue. There is no hope for our future if we encourage millions more to cross our borders illegally in the hope of finding employment.

Reducing illegal immigration to near zero is a vital step toward achieving a smaller, truly sustainable U.S. population. H.R. 2885 greatly contributes to that goal.
