EARTH DAY PETITION TO MEMBERS OF THE U.S. CONGRESS

Dear Senators and Congressmen:

Without question, our nation has made great progress in protecting our future since the first Earth Day in 1970, when America’s population was just over 200 million. Unfortunately, the dangers posed by our ever-increasing population have been greatly ignored.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that our country is presently on course to grow to 400 million people by 2050 – just 29 years from now. Such huge numbers will hinder future efforts for cleaner air, safer water, protected forests, farmlands and wildlife habitats. Most importantly, they will undermine any chances we have to leave our children, grandchildren and future generations a cleaner environment and a livable future.

I am calling on you as a concerned citizen in requesting that you please heed Negative Population Growth’s long-standing call to slow, halt, and reverse the present rate of population growth. We must act now to set reasonable and responsible national population policies that will create sustainable population levels.
