GEORGIA VOTER SURVEY RESULTS

Negative Population Growth (NPG) commissioned Mason-Dixon Polling & Research, Inc. to conduct a public opinion survey of Georgia voters to gauge their attitudes about the current pace of population growth.
FINDINGS:
Population and Development Growth Issues of Urgency and Concern with Voters
69% of Georgia voters say that the quality of life will deteriorate if current state population and growth trends continue.

Rate of Residential Growth
Almost 60% of Georgia votersand 71% of Atlanta area votersdescribe the rate of residential development in their communities as too fast.

Traffic
Two-thirds of voters statewide and 81% in the Atlanta metro region say that they are spending more time in traffic and less time with family as a result of the current pace of development and resulting traffic congestion.

Sprawl
More than half of voters say that sprawl can never be controlled unless the states population stops growing.

The Politics and Policies
Two-thirds of Georgia voters say that the state and federal leaders have a responsibility to enact policies that reduce development and halt population so that a high quality of life, a health environment, and a sound economy can be maintained.

55% of voters statewide and 61% in the Atlanta region dont believe that state officials are effectively balancing development and population growth with maintaining a high quality of life.

Voter Attitudes about Immigration Policies
74% of Georgia voters are concerned about immigration levels to the U.S.

79% of Georgia voters are extremely concerned or somewhat concerned about immigration levels to the state of Georgia.

60% of Georgia voters oppose an amnesty for illegal immigrants currently in the U.S.
