NPG MEMBERS SPEAK OUT...
THOUSANDS OF PETITIONS DELIVERED TO CAPITOL HILL

Earlier this year NPG asked concerned citizens all across America to help us stop the current tidal wave of legal and illegal immigration and we were very pleased with the response. Thousands signed and returned our "Immigration Moratorium Pledge of Support" and sent a direct message to Congress to act on this crisis before it destroys our nation and our quality of life.

In taking this step, these committed activists joined with key members of the Congressional Immigration Caucus who are working to help pass the "Mass Immigration Reduction Act" which calls for a five-year moratorium on almost all immigration.

Thousands of signed Pledges from citizens from almost every state were sent to Congressman Tom Tancredo (R., CO), the Chairman of the Congressional Immigration Caucus. Tancredo is the most aggressive member of Congress when it comes to demanding action from both the White House and Capitol Hill on reforming our nation's current immigration policies. Last year, he gave voice to the concerns of tens of millions of Americans when he took to the House floor and proclaimed "I have never seen a greater divide between what the people of this country want and what the government is willing to give them than in the area of immigration reform."

The goals of an immigration moratorium are simple -- to help get the current crisis under control. By getting serious about illegal immigration and calling a "time out" to the flow of millions of legal immigrants who move into our country at an ever-growing pace, we would be able to give overburdened federal agencies some breathing room to get a handle on this problem.

The Border Patrol could better equip its officers with state of the art technology...The Bureau of Immigration and Citizenship would be able to clear up a backlog of millions of immigration cases and update their computer tracking systems...The Department of Homeland Security would have a chance to carry out interior enforcement programs and find and expel over 80,000 criminal aliens...The Justice Department could better educate and coordinate state and local governments to enforce federal immigration laws...And the State Department would have more time to design and implement better ways to detect and prevent document fraud -- especially with passports and visas.

Here at NPG we see a National Immigration Moratorium as a forceful and responsible policy that can be implemented soon and can be a positive and effective step toward getting immigration under control. What's needed is for President Bush and our Congressional leaders to stop giving into the "cheap labor" lobby and proimmigration advocates and act in the interests of the millions of hard-working Americans who are trying to turn our country away from traveling down this destructive path.

If you have yet to make your views known to your Senators and Congressman on the issue of a National Immigration Moratorium we urge you to go to NPG's website www.npg.org and click on the Immigration Moratorium shown below, then sign it and return it to us with the enclosed response form. Join thousands of other dedicated NPG members in speaking out on this important
issue.

THE PRESIDENT'S LETTER
A Message from NPG President Donald Mann

I was listening to the radio the other day when a talk show host noted: "If we don't watch out, water will soon be as scarce as oil." He was speaking of course to the age old problem of supply and demand and his comment was quite timely.

The recent spike in oil prices can be tied to a lot of factors, however one important aspect of the problem does not receive the amount of media coverage it should. That is the fact that as the economies of both China and India grow at a record pace, so too does their consumption of oil. And of course, as these countries compete for the same limited supply of oil the western nations -- including the U.S. -- have been tapping into for decades, the price can only go up. Suffice it to say that we will probably never see gas at $1 a gallon again.

Supply and demand is at the core of the world's growing population crisis -- and is becoming more and more evident here in America.

Parade Magazine recently did a front page story about our nation's looming water crisis. America's fastgrowing West is in the grips of a long running drought and we're draining our nation's aquifers at record rates and pulling too much water from our rivers. With water crucial to our nation's health, farming and manufacturing, you would think that some of our leaders would be sounding the alarm.... calling for more responsible water usage...finding new ways to save water. But alas, we get silence.

The same is true outside almost every major metropolitan area today. Concerned and courageous citizens are fighting hard to save limited, valuable and productive land and open space that has been used for centuries for farming and raising dairy cattle but is now being destroyed by bulldozers that pave the way for massive housing developments and shopping malls.

Forests can be replenished, although that can require decades, but wetlands cannot. As a result of our population growth, we?re seeing unprecedented development in areas once off-limits to building. Future generations will pay a high price for the failure of our federal government to enact measures designed to halt and eventually reverse our population growth.

It's impossible to know what the future will bring, but it's not impossible to plan.

That is why NPG is making a new effort to pressure Congress to adopt a National Population Policy. We can't wait for the time when demand overwhelms supply -- whether we're talking about fossil fuels, water, farmland, or wetlands, there is a vital need for the federal government to put some parameters on how fast we deplete our nation's natural resources. Local and state patchwork solutions are a step in the right direction but in the long run we must get our leaders to realize that this is a national problem and it demands national attention. Of course, the strongest and best course of action federal officials could take immediately is to gain control of our nation's immigration crisis and reduce the population pressures in future decades.

It's time we as a nation make the necessary decisions to protect our natural resources today so they can support future generations. NPG is proud of its leadership role in this important uphill battle but we continue to need your help and support.

EDUCATING AMERICA....

In recent months talk radio has played a substantial role in alerting the American public about the growing illegal immigration crisis as more and more Americans tune in to get their news -- and the unfiltered facts -- about key issues directly from the experts. Concurrently, our expert NPG spokesman, Dave Simcox, has been speaking on radio stations all across the country reminding national and local audiences that immigration will account for approximately 62% of population growth in the next four decades. Dave underscores the fact that future generations will pay a terrible price economically, socially and environmentally if we don't get a handle on this out-of-control problem very soon. The good news is that as he lays out the case to rein-in our nation's population, he's finding a majority of listeners who are 100% in agreement. Some of the radio stations that Dave has appeared on in recent months include WIMA Lima, OH, KIND Independence, KS, KTSA San Antonio, TX, WPET Taunton, MA and KDXU St. George, UT.

SIERRA CLUB: WHY CAN'T THEY SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES?

Some people just don't get it. But what's so frightening is that those same people are in control of the Sierra Club, one of America's largest environmental organizations. For the past few years there has been an ongoing battle between the social-justice/people-centered environmentalists who currently control the Board of Directors and nature-centered environmentalists who are trying desperately to gain some seats on the Board. This year, as in the past, Don Mann, founder and president of Negative Population Growth, weighed-in to support the nature-centered candidates who see population -- and especially our nation's high immigration -- as a major threat to America's limited water supplies, forests, wetlands and other vital resources. Sad to say, the social-justice candidates (all of whom were endorsed by the current Board) simply refuse to put the weight of the Sierra Club behind stopping the flow of immigration, fearing loss of funding and accusations of ethnic bias. Sierra Club Board election results were announced on April 25th and, unfortunately, the nature centered-environmentalists once again went down to defeat.

CO-SPONSOR NPG'S AD FOR A NATIONAL POPULATION POLICY

If you have yet to respond to our recent letter urging you to co-sponsor our new NPG ad to pressure Congress to adopt a National Population Policy, it's not too late. We're looking to run as many ads as possible in key publications that we know reach the desks -- and eyes -- of Senators, Congressmen and key policymakers throughout our nation's capital. Our message demands that Congress confront today's growing population crisis and enact measures designed to halt and eventually reverse our population growth. By agreeing today to serve as a Citizen Co-sponsor we'll list your name right on the ad so it is clear to all who see it that this is a national grassroots effort backed by thousands of concerned citizens who are determined to shape a better future for our nation and for future generations.

Ignoring our nation's population problem is a recipe for disaster. Demand action now! Use the enclosed Special Contribution form to send a gift that will help underwrite the cost of this crucial media effort. Thank you.

NPG's ONGOING LIBRARY PROJECT

Fulfilling our mission to educate the American public about the population crisis and the need for population stabilization, NPG has recently sent copies of Lindsey Grant's new 74-page book "The Collapsing Bubble: Growth and Fossil Energy" to 1,100 libraries across the U.S. The book comes at a time when both President Bush and the Congress are focused on creating a national energy policy. It contains three NPG FORUM articles that focus on specific and concrete evidence of where we are and where we should be heading when it comes to fossil fuels. Grant reaches a moderately hopeful conclusion "that renewables can provide for future generations' energy needs, but only if U.S. population has begun a sharp descent in this century -- rather than continuing its present wanton growth -- and only if we begin very soon to manage the transition."

In funding the placement of these books in both community and school libraries NPG aims to reach as wide an audience as possible and take our message to hundreds of thousands of Americans. We also hope it inspires a new generation of students to focus on the population issue and join our cause.

If you would like for us to place a copy of "The Collapsing Bubble" in a local library in your name or help fund our Library Project to ensure we can distribute other population/environmental related information to America's libraries, please indicate your desire on the enclosed response.

"Your two-part article on population growth vs. resource depletion is brilliant - clear, readable and
informative. I teach Peak Oil issues to my writing students at USM and I plan on using your article
as a resource. The world needs all the help it can get."

STOP POPULATION GROWTH AND SAVE THE EARTH!

We would like to extend our thanks and congratulations to NPG members and activists who continue to use Earth Day to spread the message about how reining-in our exploding population is central to protecting our communities and our environment. Rising demands for housing, food, energy and water have already placed severe stress on our country's limited natural resources and it's up to all of us to do our part to build a better world. We are pleased that NPG is constantly asked to supply key educational material for Earth Day celebrations all across the country. However, why wait for next April? If you would like some NPG pamphlets or other population-related information for your local school, civic group or other forum, please give us a call.

AND THE SURVEY SAYS....

The early returns from our 2005 Membership Survey are in and a sampling of the results shows that:

Several times each year NPG sends summary results of our NPG Member Survey and our National U.S. Voter Public Opinion Survey to all U.S. Senators and Congressmen. We make it very clear to them that these are grassroots answers from the heartland of America and represent the opinions of thousands of concerned citizens -- and their constituents. Note: Survey was sent to only NPG members. All numbers do not always add up to 100%.
