CLEAN UP THE MESS!

THE PRESIDENT'S LETTER
A Message from NPG President Donald Mann

For more than 200 years Americans have built their lives on the belief that tomorrow will be better. As our nation reaches the milestone of being home to 300 million people, the question must be asked: What does the future hold if our nation's leaders continue to ignore the consequences of "too many people?"

Considering the enormous population problems we face today, it doesn't take much to conjure up what our country will look like in 50 or 60 years if we let population and immigration run rampant and permit America's population to soar past 450 million people. Yet if we, as a nation, face up to reality and start today to protect our quality of life for future generations, the outlook does not have to be as bleak.

Without question, America reaching a population of 300 million is not a reason to celebrate. However, this momentous occasion does offer us a tremendous opportunity to greatly expand our mission and our message. And the more we can ignite and stoke a national conversation on population – and get more people to start discussing the serious threats we face with open borders and unlimited population growth – the better chance we have of rallying more citizens to join forces with NPG to help us turn things around.

That is why I am especially excited about our extensive, multi-faceted "Wake Up America!" campaign (outlined on page 1). With millions of Americans more alert to population issues in the coming months we must be even more aggressive in sounding the alarm that Washington's indifference to the growing population crisis cannot be allowed to continue. I urge all NPG members to work with us to make this program a huge success.

In addition, I am looking forward to taking NPG's educational efforts up another major notch as we also launch our brand new NPG Journal. Our objective with this project is to carry on a continuing stream of timely commentary on local, state and national population-related issues which, in the long-term, are all interconnected. In doing so, we can keep thousands of NPG activists more focused on what we can all do, individually or together. We must force our leaders to address these problems and take action to redirect policies that are taking our country in the wrong direction when it comes to population and immigration. You won't want to miss receiving your NPG Journal which is why we need your current e-mail address. That is why I urge you to fill out the accompanying card and send it to us today.

The worst choice our leaders can make is to ignore America's mounting population and immigration problems and simply hope that they can be resolved sometime in the future. It is sad that when it comes to forcefully confronting today's immigration crisis we have to sacrifice our country's future to Washington's inertia, denial, cowardice and political correctness. What's even worse is the prospect that whatever immigration reform legislation results from the ongoing Capitol Hill debate will fall victim to these same forces when the newly created immigration programs are handed over to the blundering bureaucracy within the Department of Homeland Security to administer.

As we head into the final months of 2006 we can only hope that Congress has gained a valuable education this year on the immigration issue. Certainly tens of millions of Americans have made it clear that they demand secure borders and are vehemently against amnesty for illegal immigrants. NPG's goal is to also keep the pressure on Congress to make sure they also place realistic limits on how many people can enter our country in the next few years and in the decades to come. Without such limits on immigration we may well see our population number zoom past 400 million far sooner than expected.

In closing, I can't help but remind one and all that going to the polls and casting your ballot is one of the greatest ways we have to change the future and make our nation better. Please don't forget to vote on November 7th.

NPG GOING LOCAL:
ELECTED LEADERS' SURVEY ON POPULATION ISSUES

The ongoing immigration debate, combined with the imminent media focus on our nation surpassing the 300 million population mark, is a tremendous boon to NPG's mission. It will greatly heighten interest in our expert research and longstanding efforts to advance a sound population policy that will address and solve America's problems related to population growth. The increasing number of "hits" each month on our popular website reaffirm the fact that people across the nation and around the globe have a tremendous interest in this issue.

To take advantage of this new-found popularity and expand our educational influence even more, NPG recently launched, via the Internet, the NPG Journal, a bi-weekly, timely commentary on population issues and articles that appear in the media. Our NPG Journal will go far beyond our current practice of disseminating population-related news. It will give NPG President Donald Mann an Internet-wide forum to expand on the news stories, call attention to how they confirm or complement our NPG Research and Forum Papers and other activities. It will also remind NPG members and other readers of the need for all of us to continue to speak up on population issues to ensure that today's out-of-control immigration and population problems are addressed in a responsible and realistic manner.

We're excited about building the NPG Journal into a powerful vehicle that can impact population issues on every level – local, state, national and even worldwide. Whether simply keeping NPG members informed about the need for us to work together to advance our mission or helping to use the combined clout of NPG members to influence debate in Congress, the NPG Journal heralds a new day of NPG activism.

Key to making the NPG Journal a huge success is the vital need for members to provide us with their e-mail address. We have included a special card along with this newsletter and we ask you to please fill out and return it as soon as possible in the enclosed postage-paid envelope. Thank you.

THOUSANDS OF NPG PETITIONS DELIVERED TO CONGRESS

In recent months we've delivered thousands of petitions to U.S. Senate and House offices all over Capitol Hill and want to take this opportunity to thank all of our NPG members – including hundreds of new members – who participated in this highly successful project to tell our elected officials to "Say 'NO' to America accepting 30 million new immigrants in the next 10 years."

The tremendous citizen grassroots response to this effort underscores how concerned all Americans are about Congress passing an open-ended, ill-conceived immigration reform bill that will put America on the path to catastrophic population levels.

The goal of our nationwide petition drive was to make sure that each member of Congress heard directly from the "people at home" who understand that our nation's population is already "stretched to the max" and it is crucial to stop the present "open door" policy that has brought on today's immigration crisis and put strict limits on the number of new immigrants permitted into our country in the coming decades.

NPG SCHOOL POSTERS SEND A POWERFUL MESSAGE..."IT'S YOUR FUTURE!"

NPG's new fact-filled educational posters started arriving in teacher's mailboxes in thousands of junior high schools all over America just a few days ago and they're sure to be a big hit when it comes to discussing the implications of our nation's population reaching 300 million people.

We're excited about this special educational project because the target audience is one of the key groups who will be forced to live with the consequences of soaring population numbers. That is why we filled our "It's Your Future" posters with both national and state population facts that young people can relate to and included comparative pictures of their world today and what the future may look like in an America of 450 million or 500 million people that could become a reality in their lifetime. Printed in full color on a large 25" x 38" sheet, our new NPG teaching aid addresses the core issues of energy, water, farmland and forests, urban sprawl, air pollution, and wildlife habitat. We also included such fun-filled facts as: If you lined up all 300 million people in America today (with each person taking up 12 inches) the line would stretch for over 49,800 miles – almost 20 round trips between New York City and Los Angeles.

There is little question that today's young students will see our country grow quite differently in the next 50 years than we did in the past 50 unless we find an acceptable way to stop, and eventually reverse, our country's rapid, out-ofcontrol growth. This 300 million population milestone is a great time to make sure today's youth understand that the population problem will not solve itself. Hopefully, many of this new and upcoming generation will opt to work with us in the coming years for a sustainable population policy.

While we have already sent thousands of our "It's Your Future" posters to schools we have held a few hundred back to share with NPG members who wish to make a contribution to NPG and get one for a local school or the school your child or grandchild attends. To request your copy, please use the accompanying Special Contribution Form, or for a faster response call or email us directly.
